Our Timeline / Milestones
Over the Years
1994
Founded
-
HFR is established with its first truck, a pre-owned left-hand-drive international Navistar
1995
Grow
- We purchase our second truck, a new 1995 Peterbilt, and start out as a sub-contractor for Sunripe
1996
Expand
- Two more International Navistars, both left-hand-drives, find space in HFR’s Boksburg depot. We load for brokers using flat deck Superlinks
1997
Fifth Truck
- We acquire a pre-owned MAN, the fifth truck in the fleet with a flat deck Superlink
1998
A year of firsts
- Our first client, Tomahawk, starts booking leads with us, and many years later, we’re still doing business with them. Also, our first refrigerated unit, a 26 pallet trailer, joins the fleet. Our fleet is further expanded with four more Freightliners, and two more refrigerated trailers (both 28 pallet capacity).
1999
Increased demand
- Demand for our service and delivery grows, and with it, our fleet – we purchase two more trucks
2000
Finance Secured
- Finance is secured for siz new refrigerated units, as well as three new Freightliners. Three Argosy trucks are also financed through Daimler Chrysler Financial Services (DCFS)
2001
Bigger and better
- Through support from DCFS and Scania Credit, we acquire 18 new trucks and trailers bringing the total fleet to 35 horses and 35 trailers
2002
Joining forces
- Immanual Transport joins forces with HFR on a handshake deal. Just short of 50 truck/trailer combinations, we decide to bid for McCain’s business. The requirement? A fleet of 90 trucks and trailers.
2003
Finding roots
- Our determination pays off and by the end of the year we have 90 trucks/trailer combinations on the road
2004
Increased client base
-
Word has it that Rainbow Chickens are looking for a new transport service provider. For this to work, we need to move from 90 to 160 truck/trailers. By September, we start loading for Rainbow Worcester, and soon we are servicing the national Rainbow account.
2005
Growth is good
-
Growth in business means we have to buy a further 40 truck/trailer combinations. With rapid expansion, all our staff are actively involved in keeping the wheels turning; our mechanic, our farm manager, the handyman and even the guy doing the lawn, and the tea lady!
2006
Challenging roads
-
Our business environment changes rapidly and one of our largest accounts moves some of their business in-house. HFR starts consolidating its business.
2007
Staying determined
-
Corporate moves lead to a challenging business environment. Our service, nevertheless, stays top-notch and we keep our trucks on the road
2008
Diversification efforts
-
Global financial markets falter and our marketing efforts go into overdrive. Diversification is all the rage and we buy 40 SuperLink Tautliners and 12 14-ton ridged refrigerated units. We now have 254 combinations on our books.
2009
Over the hill
-
HFR restructures and within a few months we are down to a healthy 108 truck/trailer combinations. HFR is not only back in the black, but our name is now a beacon of hope and achievement, in an industry fighting financial turmoil
2010
Business stabilises
-
We acquire 25 International Eagles as our business stabilises and our clients call for service.
2011
Refreshed fleet
-
We retire a number of trucks in our fleet and replace them with new units. A few Scanias join the HFR fleet. The fleet increases to 160 combinations
2013
New vehicles
-
We refresh our fleet and 30 new Freightliners are added.
2014
Latest technology
- Our business strategies and reshuffled operations bear fruit as we roll out a new fleet and management system. Ten new Scanias find traction in our fleet, and pre-qualified drivers get to drive the best technology available from Scandinavia. Ten MAN’s, ten Freightliners, and new trailers join the fleet
2015
New deals
-
A deal is made with Scania – 45 top-of-the-range R500 Scanias and new trailers are purchased to replace old trucks and trailers. We also purchase seven Mercedes trucks, and renew our contract with Vector, Rainbow Chickens.
2016
Expanding our fleet
-
A year of expansion: an Iveco, five MAN’s, 20 Scania, and new trailers
2017
New horizons
